Pharmaceutical automated analysis

The course aims to introduce automated analysis devices that are used in quantitative and descriptive analysis and quality control of pharmaceutical preparations. The course includes various calibration experiments, ultraviolet and infrared spectroscopy methods, nuclear magnetic resonance devices, mass spectrometry, chromatographic separation methods, and quality control of a number of pharmaceutical preparations.

Drugs and drug chemistry

The course aims to provide a general introduction to pharmacology and drug chemistry. The course includes the study of plant chemical groups such as glycosides, alkaloids, volatile oils, terpenes, etc., as well as the study of the scientific names of plant groups and the natural products in each of them and the definition of them, their locations, the used part of them and their medical benefits, in addition to knowing the methods of extracting their most important active components and methods of determining their chemical structure and studying their biological effectiveness.

Pharmaceutical organic chemistry

The course aims to introduce the student to the principles of organic chemistry related to pharmaceutical compounds. The course includes studying the chemical properties of functional groups: alcohols, phenols, ethers, epoxy groups, carbonyl compounds, amines, amino acids, and peptides, and studying their various reactions such as substitution and deletion reactions. It also aims to study the details of heterocyclic compounds and multiple aromatic compounds, with a focus on their naming, manufacturing, classification, and their importance in pharmaceutical compounds.

Pharmaceutical organic chemistry practical

The course aims to train the student practically in the principles of organic chemistry. The course includes studying the physical and chemical properties of various functional groups and the ability to distinguish between them and study their various interactions.

Registration and acceptance of medicines

- Registration and acceptance of medicines: The course aims to discuss the steps followed in registering and accepting medicines. The course includes the stages of drug approval, starting from the pre-marketing stage, marketing approval, and post-marketing stage to ensure standards of quality, safety and effectiveness of pharmaceutical products.

Drug design

The course aims to study the various methods of drug design and their correct application in the manufacture of pharmaceutical compounds. The course includes the use of computer programs to design and develop modern drugs.

Physical pharmacy

The course aims to study the physico-chemical properties of molecules of substances included in the drug and drug solutions. The course includes the study of surfactants, colloids and the factors that affect them and their role in the manufacture of medicines, calculations of complex compounds, study of the stability of drugs, methods for determining their shelf life and factors affecting drug stability. It also addresses the physicochemical concepts that control basic processes, such as the process of drug diffusion across membranes, solubility, the effect of temperature on it, increasing the drug’s solubility in various ways, and the process of distributing drugs between immiscible solvents.

Pharmacogenetics

The course aims to identify the role of genetics in the patient’s response to therapeutic genetic factors and possible means to improve the effectiveness and safety of drug treatment. The course includes introducing students to the important role of genes in drug therapy.

biochemistry

The course aims to study the principles related to biological systems and the biological and chemical properties of the vital compounds present in the body. The course includes the study of amino acids and proteins, the kinetics of enzymes and their mechanism of action, and various metabolic processes, such as nutritional metabolic circuits, the process of transporting glucose and its metabolism within the body, glycogen metabolism, pyruvate metabolism, gluconeogenesis and pentose conversion, the construction and manufacture of fatty acids and other metabolic processes and the role of enzymes in completing them.

Business principles for pharmacy

The course aims to study the main principles of business management. The course includes basic concepts in marketing, economics, management, accounting and financial management.
