Counseling and Mental Health

This course deals with the definition of science, scientific thinking, its characteristics, the goals and purposes of science, and the study of the subject of scientific research, its methods, and types of scientific research, with a focus on its role in providing approved information by defining the methodology of scientific research, research patterns, foundations and rules that the researcher must follow, and the skills that he must master in order to develop his abilities in investigation, organized scientific research, its steps, sample selection methods, and research tools.

This course includes creating a comprehensive overview of the process of psychological, social, and vocational rehabilitation for people with special needs, including students, alcohol and drug addicts, the elderly, and people with psychological disorders. This course also examines the role of the counselor in the school and family and his ability to explain the psychological relationships of people with special needs, especially disabilities. The course also discusses the importance of vocational qualification.

Focusing on interpreting the meanings of verbal and non-verbal behaviors in the counseling process, practicing listening skills and working in counseling, knowing the obstacles to effective communication, and practicing behaviors for building an effective counseling relationship: reflecting feelings, reflecting content, clearing up, clarifying, questioning, confronting, giving information, immediacy, facilitating feedback, identifying, encouraging, positive respect, authenticity, and empathic understanding. This course includes training students to interpret the meanings of Verbal and non-verbal behaviors in the counseling process, practicing listening skills in counseling, conducting behavioral analysis of some problems and disorders, using methods for identifying problems, and practicing counseling relationship-building behaviors. The course also addresses topics of self-disclosure, transmission and confrontation, understanding communication obstacles, methods of group discussion, and solving problems and conflicts.

The course aims to introduce students to the meaning of mental health, normal and abnormal behavior, the meaning of adaptation, aggression, conflict and its types, as well as to learn about the nature of anxiety and depression, personality and its types, motivations, the stage of adolescence and its problems, also to learn about the concept of mental health, manifestations of mental health, adaptation and mental health, personality and mental health, normal behavior and abnormal behaviour, factors in maladjustment, frustration, conflict, anxiety, psychological pressure, means of adaptation. This course examines the nature of psychological stress and its elements (physiological, psychological and emotional), the factors that cause it, the factors that mediate the effects of stress and its results. This course aims to introduce the student to the importance of group counseling as a method of counseling, as well as the different types of groups and their stages of development, in addition to the characteristics of an effective group, its structure, the therapeutic forces affecting it, the importance of leadership, and the role and functions of the leader. Also, role playing, modeling, play counseling, story telling, relaxation, role reversal, logical outcomes of behavior, isolation, contracting, and reinforcement. Guidance methods appropriate for ages 5-9, 9-13 years, and on the other hand, attention to the practical aspect as much as possible, in addition to background considerations.

This course includes the characteristics of science, the benefits of statistics in counseling, the foundations of psychological measurement, and evaluation standards. Measurement means and their types; Interviews, types of qualitative and quantitative research, and types of numerical data. And some principles of analytical statistics and factor analysis

This course includes an introduction to emotional and behavioral problems and disordered habits in the early, middle and late stages of childhood. It also addresses the problems of adolescence and their importance, the physical, physiological, motor, mental, emotional, social, sexual and moral changes in the teenager, the needs of adolescence and sexual education, the problems of adolescence related to growth, identity and values, and the problems of psychological adjustment in the teenager.
